So, parent metal properties enabled to neglect the effect of inevitable welded joint

imperfections and heterogeneity in microstructure and mechanical properties. The

problem of brittle fracture occurred only when the temperature was below the nil-

ductility transition. Only the emerged in water bottom plating held, being capable to

arrest fast growing crack. In time of ship failures stress concentration /7/ and fracture /8/

were already theoretically recognized, but did not attract required attention. They became

interesting later, in FM development process.
